The types of automobile brake lining materials are different according to the manufacturing materials. It can be divided into asbestos, semi-metal, ceramic, etc.
1. Asbestos
Since the beginning, asbestos has been used as the reinforcement material for brake lining. Because of its high strength and high temperature resistance, asbestos fiber can meet the requirements of brake lining, clutch discs and gaskets. This kind of fiber has strong tensile strength, can even match with high-grade steel, and can withstand the high temperature of 316 ℃. More importantly, asbestos is relatively cheap. It is extracted from amphibole ore, which has been found in many countries.
2. Semi-metallic
It is a new friction material developed on the basis of organic friction materials and traditional powder metallurgy friction materials. It uses metal fiber instead of asbestos fiber.
Semi-metallic materials have the following main characteristics:
① The coefficient of friction is very stable. No heat decay. Good thermal stability;
② Good wear resistance. The service life is 3-5 times that of asbestos materials;
③ Good friction performance under high load;
④ Good thermal conductivity.
⑤ Low brake noise.
3. Ceramic
As a new product in friction materials. Ceramic brake lining have the advantages of no noise, no dust, no corrosion of wheel hub, long service life, environmental protection, etc. Ceramic brake lining were initially developed by Japanese brake lining enterprises in the 1990s. It has gradually become a best-seller in the brake lining market.
High temperature resistant
① Low metal content, low noise
② Short braking distance with OE design
③ Stable friction coefficient with low wearing rate
④ Small thermal recession, good recovery performance
